 The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana is pleased to continue its very successful League Locker project. In partnership with Rogards Office Plus, over $36,000 of school supplies were purchased and distributed to school children in need at the public elementary, middle and high schools in the Champaign and Urbana school systems, and Circle Academy of Cunningham Children's Home. A supply cart is filled for each of the schools and delivered to them before the first day of school.
The Junior League hopes to encourage the learning process and foster self-esteem in children who otherwise might not be able to purchase their own supplies. An effort is made to maintain confidentiality at all times so that the students being helped are not singled out in front of their peers.
League Locker also provides monetary donations to the elementary and middle schools. Donations are to various departments such as art, music, field trips and PE to help with expenses in these areas. Each of the high schools receive a single donation to be used within the school in the area identified by the principal.
The Save the Music/Music for All Program is a division of League Locker. With the help of the Music Shoppe, JLCU is now sponsoring a music instrument drive. These instruments go directly into the public schools of Champaign-Urbana, and into the hands of students who desire to play and study music, but do not have the family funds to do so. If you have an instrument that isn't currently being used, please bring it to the Music Shoppe at 114 S. Neil in Champaign.
League Locker has been in the schools for six years and has grown tremendously since its inception. It started by serving he elementary schools with supplies only. Each year something new has been added, whether it is new schools, new supplies or a completely new component. In addition to basic school supplies, League Locker often fills requests for special needs such as backpacks, calculators or binders.
League Locker is an exciting part of the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana. We are proud to be able to make a difference in the lives of our area school children.
 
Thanks to the Champaign-Urbana Community for your support of the February 17, 2006 Instrument Drive at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts during the Tons `O' Fun Traffic Jam. 18 instruments were collected and 750+ people had a great time while supporting our efforts.
